Three Good Reasons Why Tactical Military Gear Is Great for Wildlife Surveying

I like the outside, even though I’ve been chased by a bear, bitten by snakes twice and almost lost a toe to frostbite. The outside isn’t for everybody and I’m going to be the first to admit that. There is, however, something primal about being right there in the thick of nature.

Kelty Redwing 2650 Backpack (Blood Red)

One or two years back I became addicted to wildlife observation, the type you see on those wildlife programs on the television. What I’m able to say is that the secret to getting as close as possible to your subject is mixing into the environment.

They Blend In

A way to mix in is by utilising camouflage attire. I myself prefer camouflage military gear. I have 1 or 2 sets of tactical military gear clothing and every one comes in different color schemes to mix in with the different environments. I have a set of white ones which are for polar bear observation. I also have 2 variations of green based military gear garments, one for grasslands and another which suits jungle outings.

They are Sturdy

The outdoors need someone who is rough. You may expect a lot of cuts and bruises, stormy weather and none of the comforts of home. Needless to say, the gear that you take along must be durable. Leave everything that tears or breaks simply at home or you will regret it later .

Your gear needs to be durable enough to get through troublesome bushes, coarse tree trunks and the infrequent wild animal attack without falling apart.

This is the reason why I select tactical military gear for all my expeditions. They’ve been through weeks of mud, snow and rain and they are still running strongly. Sure I am unable to get lots of the stains off but I guess it just adds personality to the whole ensemble.

They Have Masses of Storage

One thing you need when going on wildlife expeditions is lots of storage space. Remember, you will be gone for weeks. You not only need spare clothing, you would also need spares of everything.

I like that my ruck pack has plenty of built in compartments which make it straightforward to organise and access my gear. It also has drainage holes at the bottom for wet days. Be certain to store items you would like to keep dry in a plastic zip lock bag.

My tactical gear back-pack also includes Pals webbing which make it easy to connect gear as well as smaller pouches to it. I typically carry all of the stuff that I would be using regularly in the outer pockets and attached pouches. Having said that , it might be a smart idea to wrap your camera lenses with some bubble wrap to give it protection from light knocks if you are going to keep them in the outer compartments.

Summary

If you are serious about wildlife observation or any other activity which has to do with long term outdoor excursions, do give a idea about making an investment in some quality tactical military gear. They are not the cheapest outdoor gear around, but they are tough enough to last for a few years of coarse usage.

Remember :

  • Gear with lots of proper storage space means you can load more stuff and organize them accordingly
  • Durable tactical military gear last longer and is unlikely to give way during your expedition
  • For long, rough journeys, invest in good outdoor gear
